I am personally a big fan of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc. One of my favorite pastimes is searching the internet for blogs and other websites that offer free Illustrator tutorials. Every time I complete a tutorial I feel like I’ve improved my Illustrator and Photoshop skills by leaps and bounds.
There are many blogs and websites that offer free Illustrator tutorials, but one of my favorite can be found here. Run by Chris Spooner, the blog offers a wealth of information for old and new designers. There are a bunch of tutorials that are easy to follow with easy-to-understand descriptions as well as pictures to show you how your work of art should be looking. Besides tutorials, Spooner discusses principles of design, the future of design, what the field is looking like for designers, etc. It’s just a really good website for graphic design in general and is great for beginners and pros alike. Spooner is also a big-time gamer which is something I appreciate.
If you are new to Illustrator, Photoshop, etc., one of the best ways improve your skillset is by doing tutorials. Tutorials teach you how to use the various tools available in the program and will show you creative ways to use these tools. This will help you to think creatively and will eventually enable you to start making your own creations. It is said that there is no true originality, just new combinations of old ideas. Graphic Design is truly no different.
Are you a designer? What are some of your favorite tutorial blogs and/or websites? Let us know in the comments!
